AWARD took part in ConnectingEurope Days 2022, Europe’s mobility flagship event, from 28 to 30 June in Lyon, France.
The Connecting Europe Days – formerly known as Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T) Days – gathered politicians, industry representatives and the European Commission to discuss transport and mobility, and their role in achieving the ambitious goals set out in the EU Green Deal and the Sustainable and Smart Mobility Strategy. Considerations of new and innovative initiatives and ideas for greening the transport system and streamlining the implementation of transport projects were among the topics that were discussed.
The agenda featured the consequences of Russia’s unprovoked and illegal invasion of Ukraine: the immediate impacts on transport, but also long-term goals such as strengthening ties with neighbouring countries.
2022 is a crucial year for the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T). By introducing the new European Transport Corridors and improving city-to-city, citizen and business connections in 2021, the Commission proposed to revise the EU’s TEN-T Regulation. The proposal was discussed this year at a political level, together with other proposals from the Efficient and Green Mobility packages.
The attendees at the Connecting Europe Days conference had an opportunity to see the state-of-the-art innovations first-hand at an exhibition of EU-funded projects, and demonstrations of alternative mobility vehicles and automated transport. And as 2022 is the European Year of Youth, young people were particularly welcome to attend and share their views this year. The Connecting Europe Days were organised together with the French Presidency of the Council of the EU.
CARA the Transport & Mobility Systems, European Cluster for Mobility Solutions on behalf of the AWARD consortium presented the All-Weather Autonomous Real logistics operations and Demonstrations – AWARD Project at the French Automotive Mobility Network (FAMN) booth which was part of the ConnectingEurope Days 2022 conference. AWARD was also visible on a poster that featured different projects led by the stakeholders of FAMN. FAMN booth visitors had an opportunity to learn about the project that aims to bring disruptive change to the trucking industry, fleet operators, and the whole logistics sector. It was pointed out that AWARD plans to fulfil its aim by contributing to the accelerated deployment of innovative, connected and automated freight transport solutions in Europe and around the world.
