The 4th International Symposium on Freeway and Tollway Operations took place from June 26th to 30th, 2023, in the vibrant city of Vienna. This premier event provided a unique platform for industry leaders, practitioners, and researchers to come together and delve into the topic of “Unlocking the Potential of Traffic Management for Future Mobility Solutions.”<\/p>

The AWARD team had the privilege of joining fellow professionals in exploring the seamless integration of new mobility services, optimizing existing infrastructure, and elevating location quality through effective traffic management. The symposium served as a continuation of the series of successful events held in Athens (2006), Honolulu (2009), and Berlin (2016), solidifying its commitment to driving positive change in the realm of traffic management. With a shared vision for a smarter, more efficient transportation landscape, participants eagerly engaged in discussions, knowledge sharing, and innovative approaches to shaping the future of traffic management. The symposium was an unparalleled opportunity to exchange ideas, gain insights from industry pioneers, and foster collaborations that will propel our transportation systems forward.<\/p>

The 4th International Symposium on Freeway and Tollway Operations in Vienna was a resounding success, leaving participants inspired and equipped with invaluable perspectives to revolutionize the way we manage traffic. Together, we are forging a path towards a brighter, more sustainable future for mobility.<\/p>

What a start today for me into\u00a0#ISFO2023\u00a0in Vienna, hosted by\u00a0AustriaTech. In the morning session of the first conference day (26\/6\/2023) the workshop I organised on \u201cHow to implement connected and automated logistic solutions into the overall traffic management.\u201d took place. Thank you to\u00a0Aggelos Soteropoulos\u00a0from AustriaTech for his professional moderation, the support of\u00a0Michael Nikowitz\u00a0and especially to all speakers for their insights:\u00a0Alexander Barth\u00a0presenting the\u00a0#AWARDH2020\u00a0project\u00a0AWARD-H2020, Konstantinos Mattas,\u00a0Hany Hassan, Ph.D., P.E.,\u00a0Jacqueline Erhart,\u00a0Manabu Umeda\u00a0and\u00a0Christoph Glauser. One main outcome in a nutshell \u2013 international cooperation is key and all efforts for setting up a CCAM cooperation – also on a national level \u2013 is worthwhile! And let\u2019s take into consideration all necessary steps from the use case design to the implementation and operation when we work together!<\/a><\/p><\/div>

AWARD was proudly represented by Alexander Barth, CEO of Digitrans GmbH<\/a><\/strong>, at a recent workshop focused on addressing the latest requirements and challenges of deploying connected and automated vehicles in transport logistics worldwide. The workshop provided an opportunity to explore stakeholder expectations, technology readiness, government preparedness, and deployment requirements to develop a realistic implementation roadmap for innovative logistics operations.<\/p><\/div>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

During the workshop, a presentation was delivered on AWARD use cases, highlighting the challenges encountered when deploying connected and automated vehicles in logistics. The workshop, expertly organized by Schildorfer Wolfgang<\/a><\/strong>, featured esteemed speakers and panellists, including Jacqueline Erhart from ASFINAG GmbH<\/a><\/strong>, Alexander Barth (CEO of Digitrans GmbH)<\/a><\/strong>, Konstantinos Mattas from the European Commission<\/a><\/strong>, Hany Hassan from Louisiana State University<\/a><\/strong>, and Manabu Umeda.<\/p>

Attendees were captivated by Alexander Barth’s insightful presentation, which showcased selected results from the AWARD project. The workshop proved to be a valuable opportunity for industry experts to gain deeper insights into the practical implementation of connected and automated vehicles in logistics and foster meaningful discussions. AWARD’s participation in this workshop exemplified our commitment to advancing the field of connected and automated vehicles in logistics and driving innovation in the industry.<\/p>
