From the 11th until the 15th of October 2021, the AWARD H2020 project participated in the ITS World Congress, which took place in Hamburg, Germany under the title ´Mobility and Logistics Solutions of the Future´.
The ITS World Congress is the biggest event focused on smart mobility and the digitalisation of transport. Every three years, the ITS World Congress takes place in Europe, organized by ERTICO. In the meantime, cities on the American continent and in Asia host the annual event. More than 10,000 participants attend conferences and exhibitions every year to talk shop or join the live demonstrations. The Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg successfully outbid the competition to host the 2021 ITS World Congress for intelligent traffic systems and services. The Congresses underline the importance of smart mobility and of Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) and raise awareness of smart mobility solutions among policymakers, experts and the general public.
After the ITS World Congress 2021 – Webinar 4 in Summer 2021, the ITS World Congress received a general presentation that showed AWARD as an innovative H2020 project focusing on advancements and solutions for the transport of innovative, connected and automated goods capable of operating in all meteorological conditions.
On behalf of the consortium, at the Nordic+ pavilion, Ms Ragnhild Wahl, the Director for Research and Innovation at ITS Norway, explained their role in the project as well as the AWARD H2020 project itself under the title: Scaling autonomous logistics: the AWARD approach. The ITS Norway is a membership association for all actors in the transportation industry. The main objective of the association is to provide meeting places for its members to enhance competence, create projects and find business partners. In the AWARD H2020 project, the ITS Norway will provide domain knowledge to the project and utilise its extensive network for the dissemination of project results both to members and non-members.
During the ITS World Congress in Hamburg, the AWARD H2020 project also took part in the Special Interest Session under the title: Continuous automated driving: large-scale trials on public roads and defragmented ODDs. On behalf of the consortium Mr Martin Reinthaler, research engineer at AIT, presented the AWARD H2020 project. The AIT´s role in the project is to shape the overall user-centred requirements, design and evaluation activities throughout the project within the requirements phase, the design of fleet management solutions and evaluation of the overall system.
